Nirvana Shatakam | Stotra Lyrics, Meaning and Significance
Nirvana Shatakam (निर्वाण षट्कम्), also known as ‘Atma Shatakam‘ (आत्म षट्कम्). Adi Shankaracharya composed the group of these 6 verses, which explain the true nature of the soul. Acharya Shankaracharya was a great Hindu philosopher and theologian from India. The Nirvana Shatakam is a powerful tool for those who seek to understand their true nature and achieve spiritual liberation.
It is the essence of all the knowledge of Advaita Vedanta philosophy. Its verses explain the basic characteristic or form of the true self (Atma) having the same quality as the ultimate reality (Brahman). It makes a person realize the form of pure consciousness and bliss that is within him. According to it, the true nature of a person is the same as Shiva. And the soul has nothing to do with this material world. Nirvana Shatakam is widely chanted and studied in the spiritual world. It is available as a musical song on various platforms. Here,
- “Nirvana” means liberation, peace and freedom.
- “Atma” means the true nature of a person, the ‘Self’.
- “Shatakam (षट्कम)” means a group of six verses.
Nirvana Shatakam Stotra Lyrics
I am not the mind, intellect, ego and minds
Neither the ears, the tongue, nor the sense of smell nor the eyes.
Neither sky nor earth nor light nor wind
I am the form of the bliss of consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
I am not the life-force, nor the five airs
Neither the seven elements nor the five cells.
Neither speech, nor hands, nor feet, nor air in the stomach
I am the form of the bliss of consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
I am not the passion or hatred, nor do I have greed or delusion
I am not intoxicated, nor am I jealous.
Neither Dharma, nor Artha, nor desire, nor Moksha
I am the form of the bliss of consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
Neither virtue nor sin nor happiness nor sorrow
There are no mantras, no holy places, no Vedas, no sacrifices.
I am not a food, nor a food, nor a consumer
I am the form of the bliss of consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
I have no death, no doubt, no racial difference
I have no father, no mother, no birth.
No friend, no friend, no teacher, no disciple
I am the form of the bliss of consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
I am neither an option nor a form
Because He is omnipresent in all the senses, He is omnipresent.
Nor is it inconsistent, nor liberation, nor Maya
I am the form of the bliss of consciousness, I am Shiva, I am Shiva.
